World Series Final Game Draws 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million spectators across the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game drew 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the complete American average reached over 16 million. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s best postseason performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen different languages.
