The Princess of Wales's Yearly Yuletide Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.

A Theme of Kindness and Compassion

The theme of the service, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
