The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
